Google is about to unleash a startling advance in online communication that will revolutionize email. Just one of the amazing features of this new service, expected to be released later in 2009, is translation. Is it translation English to French and French to English? Yes, in a tiny part. Actually it is translation from any one of 40 languages to any one of those same 40 languages. That’s an achievement in itself. But, that’s not what I’m so amazed at.

URLs – Facebook’s Legal Department Just Taught Me an Expensive Lesson

me explain what I did. Let’s say my name is Bill and that my main website is Bill.com. So, I bought another website, simply to function as a re-direct: FacebookBill.com. I thought that that was quite clever. It worked perfectly well for a year, until the Legal Department of Facebook wrote me a sweet email demanding that I cease using their brand “Facebook” in my URLs.
What should I do?
One idea was to buy the website FBbill.com which would likely be OK with Facebook. But, I decided to not fight at all with Facebook and so I am simply appending FB to the end of my own general website so it is now of the form bill.com/FB and that is now the re-direct that allows people to effortlessly get to my Facebook Fan Page.
